When to send wedding invitations

When to send wedding your invitations

In the middle of planning your wedding and wondering when is the best moment to send your wedding invitations? There is no right or wrong answer but general invitation etiquette recommends sending your wedding invitations between 3 and 6 months before your wedding. The earlier you send your invitations, the more time your guests have to organise themselves for attending your wedding.

A lot depends on where your wedding is going to take place and whether or not you are inviting guests from the local area or from out of town. The further away your wedding is or the further away your guests are from, the earlier you need to send your invitations!

Be sure to leave yourself enough time to find the perfect invitation design for your wedding and to finalise your wedding invitation wording.

When should I send destination wedding invitations?

We would recommend sending out destination wedding invitations around 6 months before the wedding. You want to give your guests as much notice as possible to be able to attend a destination wedding as getting the time off and organising flights and accommodation can take time.

Alternatively, you can send out save the date cards with the details of your wedding as soon as you have booked the venue and looked up flight and accommodation options for your guests.

When should I set my RSVP deadline?

Usually, the RSVP date should be around 2 months before the wedding. Find out from your wedding suppliers when they will need your final headcount and set your RSVP deadline for a few weeks before this. This will leave you with a couple of weeks to chase anyone who hasn’t responded to make sure that you can give the venue, caterers and other suppliers the final numbers and get started on your wedding table plan!

Add your RSVP date to your invitations and ask your guests to reply via email, phone or your wedding website. Alternatively, you can include matching RSVP cards with your invitations to have your guests reply via post. We would recommend addressing and stamping your RSVP envelopes to make it as easy as possible for your guests to let you know whether or not they are attending!

What information do I need to include on my wedding invitations?

Whilst you can remain vague on your save the dates providing only the date and general location, your wedding invitations are an opportunity to share the final details your guests need to be able to attend your big day. This means that you won’t be able to send out your wedding invitations until all the venues and the timings of your big day have been finalised.

As well as providing the basic details of your celebrations, you may also wish to provide your guests with guest information cards to be able to give them directions to the venue, recommendations for local accommodation and the details of your gift list.
